Description:
The workshop on Planning, Design and Analysis of At-Grade Intersections is a 3 day professional development course for transportation planners, traffic engineers and highway designers. It is an advanced level course for those with at least two years of experience and an appropriate education background. The course contains lectures, demonstrations, and problems (projects) for maximum involvement and understanding by the participants. The projects demonstrate the intersection design development process, application of drive characteristics and expectations in channelization design, utilization of the highway capacity software (HCS) for operational analysis and lane determination, and channelization design development with AASHTO design vehicle turning paths. The material is based on many years of practical experience presented in power point and overhead transparencies. The utilization of the highway capacity software requires one notebook laptop for every 2-3 participants. The HCS software will be provided.

Each course participant will receive a set of reference materials in a 3-ring binder for use during the course and after. The reference materials are approximately 300 pages of text, figures, tables, and photographs. Each participant should bring pencils (2H), a pair of triangles, scale, a small pocket calculator, and note paper to the workshop.
