ACEC Georgia HR Forum

Tuesday, February 1, 2022 (11:00 AM - 12:00 PM) (EST)

Description

This month's meeting will be on The Top 10 Handbook Policies Employers Must Have In Place in 2022 and a Quick Debrief On The OSHA ETS After the Supreme Court's Decision

Simply stated, done right, employee handbooks provide employers with an important shield to defend against or possibly avoid employment claims, including allegations of harassment, wrongful termination, and unpaid overtime.  But done improperly, employee handbooks can be used as a sword by opportunistic plaintiff's employment lawyers to take advantage of clumsy, inartful, or unlawful language in a handbook.  Particularly as we start off a new year, it is critical that employers review their handbook every year to ensure that the policies in their handbook keep up with their actual business practices and constantly changing employment laws.  In this Webinar, we will identify some of the top mistakes employers make in an employee handbook, including policies dealing with EEOC compliance, wage and hour issues, ADA accommodations, email and internet use, progressive discipline, and workplace safety.  We also will briefly discuss the Supreme Court?s decision blocking OSHA?s 100 or more employee ?vaccine or test? mandate.

Guest Speaker:
Brad Adler, Partner, Freeman Mathis & Gary LLP.

Brad Adler is a nationally recognized labor and employment lawyer that has represented employers in a diverse range of labor and employment matters in more than 26 states across the U.S. His labor and employment practice fully encompasses the issues that employers may face in managing and interacting with employees, including employment discrimination and harassment claims, wage and hour claims, FMLA and ADA claims, and disputes surrounding enforcement and defense of non-compete, non-solicitation, and confidentiality agreements. As part of his practice, Mr. Adler regularly appears before the EEOC and related federal and state agencies, including the DOL, and also represents employers before federal and state courts throughout the country in a myriad of employment disputes.

The ACEC Georgia HR Forum, led by our new chair, Charlene Smart with CERM, is designed around the interests of the HR community within the engineering industry. The forum is intended to serve as a collective where business colleagues can participate in a free exchange of ideas to discuss challenges, opportunities, and subsequent policies facing the HR community and ideas about how ACEC Georgia might engage to address those concerns.
